2021 Grounds Development Progress

In 2021, Liam Mellows GAA Club built a new, full-size, state-of-the-art playing pitch at the club grounds in Ballyloughane, Galway.

The club grounds now boasts two full-size grass playing pitch, one underage grass playing pitch, two astroturf training areas, a 50-metre hurling wall and a clubhouse, making it one of the finest GAA club grounds west of the Shannon.

The new pitch was built largely on a 4.2 acres of new land, recently purchased by Liam Mellows GAA Club. The club now owns nearly 18 acres across its facility in Ballyloughane, which has been developed in various phases. More details of the club's ground development history are coming soon.

Buy a Square, Fund The Field

Liam Mellows GAA Club has funded the construction costs to-date through a combination of grants, a grounds sharing agreement with GMIT and our own club resourses.

But these alone aren’t enough to cover the original €172,000 cost of purchasing the 4.2 acres and no grants are available for the purchase of land.

This leaves us with a funding shortfall if we are to finish in 2022 what we have already started, and complete the installation of pitch floodlights, fencing, an irrigation system and dugouts on the new pitch.

For the purchase cost of the new land, we must turn to our club members, the wider Liam Mellows family and the local business community to help Fund The Field.

To Fund the Field we will first sell 400 squares on the new pitch for €250 each, to people and families that will be recognised forever more as the donors that helped fund the field. We will later make other sponsorship opportunities available to our friends in the business community.

Every contributor will also receive a "Donor’s Certificate” recognising their contribution and identifying the square of the pitch assigned to them.

Donor will also be recognised on a donor plaque, to be erected at the entrance to the new pitch
